WHY WOULD I NEED A REVISION?

A dental rehabilitation and replacement of missing teeth does not just involve your teeth. Your muscles, jaw joint, fascia (connective tissue) and even your brain are involved in a complex dental rehabilitation.

Due to the complexity of the system it is important to ensure your dental prosthesis is fabricated to work with, rather than against, these other forces and mechanisms in your body, called biomechanics.

Many of these things can be taken into consideration when designing your new smile to allow the prosthetics to last as long as possible.

Like everything else in our body however, normal wear and tear is expected over time. Just like in medicine, we don't expect a hip or knee replacement to last forever, this is the same thing for dental replacements. Our job at Bend Prosthodontics is to design you something that lasts as long as possible based on your unique needs.

WHAT DOES A REVISION TREATMENT CONSIST OF?

A dental rehabilitation revision may consist of only a new prosthetic component (the part you can see in your mouth), or may also require repair or replacement of the parts underneath your gums (dental implants and abutments).

Ailing and failing dental implants can happen early or late based on your biology or wear and tear over time. Prosthetic wear and tear is expected and has anticipated replacement timelines based on the materials you and your provider selected initially for your first rehabilitation.

Dr. Schlam will evaluate your biologic foundation (gum and bone health), your dental implant health (bone and gums around your implants), and your prosthetic health (wear and tear and material changes) to help diagnose your current condition and recommend the best revision treatment.
